PH Red Cross gets P2.1M lab equipt from Valencia Rotary Club

MALAYBALAY CITY (PIA)The Rotary Club of Metro Valencia (RCMV) turned over the P2.1 million Refrigerated Centrifuge to the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) in Bukidnon on December 22.

A refrigerated centrifuge is a laboratory apparatus used to separate whole blood into various components.

The machine would help address the need of critical patients afflicted with the seasonal killer Dengue Fever and those suffering from cancer, leukemia, and kidney disease by giving them access to safe, quality, and readily available blood products such as plasma.

Philippine Red Cross-Bukidnon Chapter Administrator Jocelyn Daroy said that the machine will provide immediate access to safe and high-quality platelet concentrate, which is currently available only in faraway cities of Davao and Cagayan de Oro.

"Access to these blood components could mean life or death for vulnerable patients," she said in a radio interview.

Roderico Bioco, chairman of the Board of Directors of the Philippine Red Cross-Bukidnon Chapter who accepted the donated blood processing equipment, said this machine could reach more communities and save more lives.

Officials of the Rotary Club of Metro Valencia said they obtained this life-saving apparatus through its Global Grant No. GG223801 called "Providing a Lifeline for the Critical and Vulnerable Patients of Bukidnon, Philippines.

Atty. Marlowe Selecios, RCMV project chair said this was made possible through the collaborative effort of RCMV, Rotary Club of Gwangju West of South Korea, Rotary International District 3870 and District 3710 (South Korea), and other international partners with counterpart funding from The Rotary Foundation under its Global Grants Program.

Rotary Club’s Past District Governor (PDG) and District Foundation Chair Manny Along and Lady Biema, PDG John Mark Sarraga and Lady Ching, and members of RCMV led by Club President Didin Antonio graced the occasion.

The medical community who witnessed the turnover includes Dr. Gladys Napigkit of Bukidnon Medical Society; Dr. Jun Villahermosa of the Provincial Health Office; RCMV President-elect Dr. Rachel Alegata; and Dr. Rhogie Nomus of Valencia City Health Office. (RCMV/PIA 10Bukidnon)
