MALAYBALAY CITY (PIA)--The Malaybalay City Price Coordinating Council recently joined forces with key government agencies such as the Provincial Agriculture Office, Department of Labor and EmploymentDepartment of Social Welfare and Development, National Food Authority, and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in organizing the Kadiwa ng Pangulo (KNP) and Serbisyo Caravan at Plaza Rizal here.

The Kadiwa established vibrant pop-up stores that displayed a wide array of fresh farm produce, budget-friendly rice, fish, and locally crafted goods and delicacies.

Junar B. Merla, DTI-Bukidnon's Consumer Protection Division chief, highlighted the cost-effectiveness of shopping at the Kadiwa stores.

Farmers here have opportunities to sell their products directly to consumers, eliminating the need for brokers or middlemen to ensure more reasonable prices. This intends to provide discounts to our consumers so they can purchase basic needs at affordable prices, he explained.

Merla emphasized that collaborating sellers provided discounts ranging from five percent to a remarkable 40% on their merchandise.

With 20 partner sellers participating from Cagayan de Oro City, Maramag, and Valencia City, he clarified that they are not retailers but wholesalers.

As a result, weighty discounts are expected from these wholesalers, contributing to a substantial reduction in consumer prices.

The KNP is part of the government’s efforts to ensure a stable food supply as it enables farmers to sell directly to consumers by removing market layers. It also establishes additional markets for farmers, fisherfolks, and micro enterprises to sell locally produced agri-fishery products and necessities.

Meanwhile, consumer Lynneth Geneta thanked the government's initiative, noting that she can now purchase rice for only P25.00.

"I am truly grateful for this program. Thanks to President Bongbong Marcos. We can buy rice at an affordable price. I have saved a considerable amount in my budget because prices here at the Kadiwa are genuinely more economical," shared Geneta.

This sentiment echoes the positive impact of such initiatives on the community, emphasizing the importance of accessible and affordable essentials for all. (BGE/PIA 10-Bukidnon)
